I was starting to wonder if in fact I was going to find the time to finish building the Surly before hitting the road in 3 weeks time, just seem to have an awful lot going on at the moment in between work (lots and lots of), riding (lots of) and this week some good surf too… this morning however in a flurry of workshop activity I put it all together and took her for a quick spin. For now it’s borrowing the cranks, cassette and front/rear mechs off my Nomad as I only need them for a month or so. It’s running 42C tyres and I’m rather happy about how much clearance there is.. room enough for some even fatter knobby rubber when I get home. Not much else to say about it really.. the bars are an old pair of WTB Dirt Drops that have needed a bike hanging off them for a long time so happy to be able to put those back into use. It rides as you’d expect a skinny-tubed steel frame with moderately fat rubber on to ride.. luurvely. Not ponderous at all, the CrossCheck is a very nicely balanced frame, no change at all since the first one I owned.. Happy to have one back in the stable and really looking forward to lots and lots (and lots) of miles on this one.
