a late summer weekend

Now that racing has finished for me for the season making the most of what is left of summer to catch up on some paddling. We weren’t able to get on the water until after lunch on Saturday so stayed local with a quick 17 mile dash west in idyllic conditions to pitch up for the night on Gwenvor followed by a similar distance again Sunday morning albeit into the teeth of a stiff north-easterly.

no matter how often I paddle around the west of Cornwall I will never become bored of the granite.
even on the calmest of days there is always a little bit of movement in the far west
it’s hollow too…
wonderful clarity to the water… as always..
the slightly surreal site of a fisherman’s work glove with air trapped in the fingers floating at the surface of the water…
a bit of colour in the sky at dusk…
followed by a cold, windy morning. A dear friend of mine who recently lost her long fight with cancer christened my Greenland kayak ‘Darth Kayak’ for it’s black, angular nature. I have little doubt she would have given my tent a similar moniker.. Darth Tent. I think of her every time I paddle Darth Kayak and each time I pitch Darth Tent..
