nothing to do with cycling or kayaking for a change, just a quick post to introduce a couple of Exmoor Ponies I met while rambling around on the cliffs out on the Lizard yesterday on a beautiful late autumn afternoon. I think they’re ace.. and they’re interesting too..Unlike many other breeds it is a ‘race’ of pony that evolved naturally over thousands of years with minimal interference by man. They are very well adapted for survival in harsh of conditions, indeed many times I have been out there in the teeth of a brutal winter gale with hail, rain and salt spray streaming in horizontally off the ocean and come across these little chaps standing stoically in the weather as if nothing is happening.. Of course they are not native to the cliffs of the Lizard but they are there helping to preserve an environment created over centuries by grazing animals, in this case apparently they are helping to preserve a unique variety of heather by preventing undesirable plants from moving in and taking over the area. They are friendly characters too :-)
p.s it is possible that these in the pics are Shetlands, lol, both breeds are wandering around out there.. either way they’re nice and same comments apply.
