There has been plenty of bike and on-water time of late but I’ve been feeling singularly uninspired to write recently so perhaps this will help get me back into the groove …. oh, Happy New Year by the way, I hope it’s a good one for you.
Yesterday paddled out of Portmellon with a couple of friends. I was lucky enough to grow up here, a sheltered, tiny little hamlet on the south coast of Cornwall near Mevagissey. The plan being to head west down around Dodman Point to the more exposed coast around the beaches of Hemmick and Caerhays for some play. I didn’t bother with a decent camera, hence the poor quality of the pics – the weather was very grey and wet as we got on the water although at one point the sun did appear briefly giving some nice lighting before disappearing again behind a thick veil of grey.
The Dodman has something of a reputation, a number of craft have come to grief here… the tides run strongly around the point and it’s ‘blessed’ with a number of submerged reefs that cause significant overfalls in the right conditions. Yesterday however it was very quiet.. neap tides and just 3 or 4 feet of swell coming up from the south west.
