I keep meaning to set aside time for a post or two, the list of things to write about is growing all the time, but I keep failing miserably.. business is good, I’m working on a number of projects and the weather has been nice so posts inevitably get left for the evenings.. and tonight being a case in point it’s already 9pm, I haven’t sorted dinner yet and once again writing gets pushed to the bottom of the heap of things to get done before tomorrow.. So.. for this one I just thought I’d introduce you to a friend of mine who has been couchsurfing here for a few days.. Fred, from France.. riding a ‘bent. He freely admits to describing himself as bent Fred.. which is great because I doubt I could have resisted the temptation anyway… oh, no, wait ‘bent rider Fred’ is what he calls himself.. oh well, near enough :-)
One doesn’t see many ‘bents around these parts, they’re perhaps not best suited to the steep (very) and frequent(very) nature of Cornwall’s hills although they do deal with the frequent headwinds admirably and I rather like the idea even though I doubt I will ever own one. One thing is for sure however, if you want to have conversations on your travels a recumbent is the way to go. I had to retrieve him from a gaggle of interested locals when he first arrived. Fred is just exploring the area for a while on his Rohloff-equipped machine, making movies as he goes, and did admit to being somewhat surprised by just how hilly the terrain is. Anyway.. it’s been great fun having him here, and he’s a wicked chef, I need to get more miles in now to compensate for all the great meals he put together. He has a website here with lots of bent flavoured stuff (!) related to his laid back bicycle travels around the world.
