August is my least favourite time of year in Cornwall… the roads and beaches are clogged with people.. luckily August can quite often be a rainy month which tends to at least keep the beaches and surf a little quieter.. ;-) Having said that one has to admire (just a little bit..) the stoicism of the ‘British Public’ on holiday… a cool and rainy day recently I wandered down to the beach for a half hour away from work to find them busy enjoying their holidays.. “the weather is shit but we’re going to the beach in our baggy supermarket wetsuits and we’re darn’ well going to enjoy it” :-)
(by the way I’ve linked pics to bigger versions, they’re that flavour of picture that one needs to be able to appreciate the detail .. IMO :-)
There was a half-decent wave this morning in Mounts Bay, the leftover storm swell from the gale force southerly winds overnight. A light offshore breeze at dawn brought an abundance of glassy clean, and empty, peaks.. albeit in torrential rain. So very quiet first thing but by the time we were done (and done in) the rain had left off and the usual coach tours had arrived and were discharging large volumes of gawking tourists onto the beach.. I’ve never had to get changed in the middle of a tight, gawping, camera-wielding crowd before.. a little bit odd, sort of ‘lab experiment’ flavour of experience… summer. love it.
