Lizard 30 TT

I have an idle moment (yes I know, I seem to have many of those judging by the rubbish I write… )so I’m going to mention the upcoming Lizard 30 mile TT. With the end of the Channel Atlantique road race a couple of years ago it is becoming one of Cornwall’s most significant competitive cycling events… probably the most significant on reflection. What started a few years ago as a fairly low key event on the calendar has grown in stature thanks to the efforts of organiser John Trott (Devon & Cornwall Police CC), attracting plenty of support & sponsorship from local businesses and a £1000 prize fund. This year looks set to be a spectacular with a Tour de France-flavoured start ramp… plus of course the course is set in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, out on the Lizard Peninsula.. It’s not easy though.. there are some nasty climbs to hurt the legs and if it’s windy, which it frequently is, then it can be brutal… but in a particularly satisfying way :o) I’m looking forward to it, mainly to see how well I can do on a fixie, not exactly a logical choice of bike for the course but hey, I’ve never claimed common sense.

Anyway, the race is 6th April, closing date for entries is 1st April so if you’re down this way and fancy a crack, or just to come and watch then I’ve made the event details downloadable here. Usual CTT entry form applies, and it forms part of the Cornish Cup series I mentioned in my post below. If you do make it down then come and say hello.. I imagine I’ll be easy to spot with a fixed gear..

p.s the pasties are fabulous.. best in Cornwall, which I suppose seeing as they are a Cornish invention then must make them the best in the world…

I took some photos on Sunday at the Lizard, some good ones of you and your gorgeous Condor, which i have passed to the webmaster for you all to view.
I was sorry to hear of your buddy and his crash. We heard someone had gone over his bars and was in a pretty awful state, something we all dread. Please pass on mine and my wife’s best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Well done to all who competed on such a cold wild day!
