Cornish Cup and other stuff…

I’m supposed to be writing a piece for the local paper on the Cornish Cup, our local league of time-trial events… with some words on last year’s winner who just happens to be Cyclelogic team-mate Martin Bawden. I’m lacking miserably in inspiration however so instead just I’m scribbling about it on here… you see it doesn’t really matter what bollocks I write on my own site but if it’s going in the paper it needs to be coherent and interesting….

So, here he is… this is Martin and our sponsor.. Steve from Cyclelogic (new van in the background, cool eh?!) Not a lot else I can say about that really except obviously Martin is quite quick on a bike… and they’re both really nice guys (I need to keep in favour you see…)

Anyway, if you’re interested details of the Cornish Cup can be found here (by the way, I will write more than this for the paper…) . It’s a good thing and has been growing since it’s inception in 2006. OK, it’s only ‘timetrialling’ but the road race scene this far west has been withering somewhat due to the reluctance of many folk to travel all the way down here, and the increasing difficulty of organising a race among potential opposition from local communities and the need for support from the local Police… On the bright side we do have a Cornish sportive later this spring (the North Cornwall Tor, and yes Tor is spelt correctly…) but that will be a whole other story.

Yesterday should really have been my first event since coming home from Colombia… but that food poisoning episode still has me weak and mostly on the sidelines.. so instead I took my camera down to the course to grab a few snaps for the team website. The event was the CVC&TC Open ’10’ on the S6/10… It’s a very hard thing for me to be in a race HQ but not taking part, this time though that desire to be on the bike was tempered somewhat by the icy northerly gale and occasional snow flurry… If you’re interested in results then they’ll be up on the CVC&TC website shortly I imagine, though at time of writing the Penzance Wheelers have stolen a march on the Camel Valley lot with results on their front page… I was just interested in grabbing a few pics and trying not to freeze my nuts off out on the course. So here are a couple of pics, the top one being Martin (again), but note that the lower photo shows a grumpy old man who, for the sake of anonymity, we’ll just call S… it seems he just can’t help himself… despite burning lungs and, I hope, immense suffering (haha) he still manages to raise a finger to the lens…. can’t help it I suppose ;-)

.

(hehe, wonder if he’s reading…?)
