West Cornwall

Earlier this year the Cornwall Tourist Board released a series of short videos, this one below is west Cornwall.. my home. Lucky enough to be born and brought up here studies, work, travel took me away for many years before I found my way back. The weather can be miserable, sometimes it feels like the arse end of nowhere and economically things are pretty tough down here but this movie pretty much sums why I’ll do my damnedest to make enough of a success of my little enterprises such that I can continue to call this place home. The only place in the UK that feels more special to me are the Western Isles of Scotland. The nature of the place and a mobile life means I don’t have lots of friends and what many folk would consider a busy social life.. but I have a few really good friends that mean a lot to me with whom to spend time on and in the water, on my bicycle and on foot. I’ve moved countries twice, it’s hard, and I have no wish to miss friends again.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings, here’s that movie, I just wanted to share it, in part because a lot of visitors to this country appear to have absolutely no idea at all just what is here out in the far west.. and indeed the various friends I have scattered around the world have no idea either and I’d quite like to wean them off the idea that as far as visiting goes it’s always me that pays the airfare to go there, as I don’t have a lot of spare ££ at the moment and coming here is worth the effort… ;-) If you’re  regular to this blog you’ll have seen most of these places from the cockpit of my sea kayak or the saddle of my bicycle but the aerial view really is quite special and puts it in context beautifully. You can also look at my last post below for a bit more of west Cornwall from ground level..

  • Nice place to live!!! Maybe a little bit colder than South of Brazil (where I live), but very beautiful. We share the same ocean! Thanks for the post! When coming again to South America, please let me know to come kayak and bike with us!

    • hey Leonard, nice to hear from you. It is only yesterday that I was only talking about a desire to do some riding and kayaking in Brazil, so when I do I shall be in touch!

  • Consider the ignorant informed! I’m living in London, but I’m an expat Kiwi, so I’m no stranger to beautiful landscapes. That said, I want to go to Cornwall now.
